I initially trained as a social worker in Germany before qualifying as a counsellor and Gestalt Therapist in Ireland and London. Since then I have worked in a wide range of settings in Germany, Ireland and England.
This included a women’s refuge,a therapeutic family project, paediatric and special care baby units of a large teaching hospital and the staff counselling service in a hospital.
I have always been drawn to humanistic approaches to therapy.
My initial therapy training has been in Gestalt Therapy. Over time I have been influenced by a number of other approaches, particularly attachment based therapies ( Dan Hughes and Kim Golding in particular), Eriksonian Hypnotherapy, Psychosynthesis, Transactional Analysis, Systemic Family therapy as well as creative therapy approaches such as Art Therapy.
I currently work part time at Ipswich Hospital in a specialist post to support children living with or bereaved through a parent’s cancer. 2 days a week I work privately as a counsellor/psychotherapist with individuals and families.
My therapeutic work is influenced by my training and professional experience as well as my life experience. I strongly believe that any therapeutic model is less important than the personal qualities of the therapist and the quality of the relationship that is built between client and therapist.
I see therapy as a creative process and I draw on whatever tools may be helpful – we may just talk or I may use creative techniques like art / visualisation etc.
